The School of Economic Law
of Nice (EDEN)

EDEN builds on the intellectual tradition of the Nice School of Economic Law, which emerged in the early 1970s around the work of Gérard Farjat, Professor at the University of Nice. Farjat conceived economic law as the law governing the organisation of the economy, transcending the traditional divide between public and private law and paying particular attention to the emergence of private actors exercising forms of economic power comparable to those of public authorities.

EDEN seeks to revisit and extend this intellectual tradition in light of contemporary transformations of the economy. Digitalisation, artificial intelligence, the ecological transition, and new forms of private economic power raise anew the questions that stood at the heart of the Nice School of Economic Law.
